SD16 Children's Stretch Canvas Ballet Shoes • B Medium Width
The So Danca SD16 Children's Ballet Shoes are a brilliant choice for growing dancers ready for the softness and flexibility of a modern stretch canvas ballet shoe. The lightweight upper gently follows the shape of the foot, helping reduce loose fabric while allowing young dancers to point, flex and move naturally throughout class.
This B width is the medium-width version of the SD16 and our recommended starting point for most children. A flexible split sole encourages natural articulation as technique develops, while pre-sewn crossed elastics and a drawstring-free topline create a neat, secure fit that's wonderfully simple for regular ballet classes.
Made for Growing Dancers
The SD16 is particularly useful as dancers progress beyond their first structured ballet shoes and begin wanting greater flexibility beneath the foot. Its soft stretch canvas moves naturally with the foot rather than feeling stiff around it, while the split sole gives developing dancers more freedom to articulate through the metatarsals and arch.
For parents, the SD16 is also refreshingly uncomplicated. The crossed elastics arrive pre-sewn, there is no traditional drawstring to adjust or tuck away, and the stretch canvas creates a smooth ballet fit without unnecessary bulk. Available in Pink, White, Black, Tan and Mocha, it can also accommodate a wide variety of ballet school uniform and performance requirements.
Guide
Too Small – or Simply Too Narrow?
One of the most useful things to understand when fitting children's ballet shoes is the difference between length and width. If the shoe has enough room in front of the toes but feels tight across the widest part of the foot, your child may need a wider fitting rather than a longer shoe.
The SD16 B is the medium-width starting point. If the length looks correct but the fabric feels overly stretched across the metatarsals, the toes appear compressed or the shoe feels uncomfortably tight through the forefoot, consider moving to the wider SD16 C width.
Dance World Tip: Avoid automatically adding another shoe size to solve a width problem. Extra length can leave unnecessary space around the toes and heel while still failing to give a wider foot the room it actually needs.
Guide
How should the SD16 fit?
Ballet shoes fit differently from everyday school shoes, and the SD16 has a slightly smaller, close-fitting feel. Always begin with your child's measured foot length rather than their everyday shoe size.
Choose approximately 1½–2 UK sizes larger
Comfortable ballet fit with sensible growing room
The stretch canvas should sit smoothly around the foot without excessive folds, but the toes should remain naturally positioned and should never feel compressed simply to achieve a neat ballet line.
Dance World Size Guide is intended as a helpful starting point rather than a guarantee of fit. Every child's feet are different, and the ideal size may vary depending on foot shape, width, growth and personal preference.
Dance World Junior™ Verdict
The So Danca SD16 B is an excellent progression shoe for growing dancers ready for a softer, more flexible split sole. Its stretch canvas hugs the foot neatly, the drawstring-free construction keeps things simple and the availability of different widths gives us more options for finding a genuinely comfortable ballet fit rather than simply adding unnecessary length.
